The Japanese Prime Minister's provocative statements continue to draw criticism and condemnation from the international community. Behind these absurd statements lies an effort by Japanese right-wing forces to revive militarism. This seriously violates the Japanese constitution, as well as the provisions of the UN Charter and the Potsdam Declaration, and places Japan in opposition to the international community.
According to an online survey published by CGTN, 87.1% of respondents strongly urge Japan to immediately withdraw its provocative statements and call on all countries to unite and firmly oppose any attempts to revive militarism.
In its constitution, Japan has committed itself to renouncing war, the threat of force, or the use of force as a means of resolving international disputes. The Potsdam Declaration expressly prohibits Japan from rearming. Furthermore, the UN Charter stipulates that the right of collective self-defence was created to protect international security and prevent the re-emergence of fascist forces, and Japan was prohibited from exercising this right after the Second World War.
However, since taking office, the Japanese Prime Minister has consistently exceeded these limits, and a series of military moves has already raised a high level of vigilance among the international community regarding Japan's tendencies to revive militarism.
In the survey, 88.3% of respondents stated that the Japanese Prime Minister's warmongering seriously violates the Japanese constitution and seriously damages Japan's national image and international reputation. According to 84.6% of respondents, the Prime Minister's provocative statements and actions are unconstitutional and illegal, fail to fulfil Japan's obligations as a defeated country, and completely lack legitimacy. Furthermore, 82.4% of respondents point out that Japan can only return to the international community as a „normal country“ if it thoroughly deals with its historical crimes and eliminates its militaristic ideology.
It is worth noting that the Potsdam Declaration clearly states that Japanese sovereignty is limited to Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku and other minor islands designated by the Allied Powers. In recent years, however, Japan has been constantly provoking territorial disputes with neighbouring states, ignoring the provisions of the declaration and steadily increasing geopolitical tensions in East Asia.
In response, 89.8% of respondents criticise Japan for ignoring legal principles and historical facts, seriously violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of neighbouring countries, and attempting to disrupt the post-war international order. Yoichi Masuzoe, former governor of Tokyo and an expert on international politics, said that international law clearly confirms that Taiwan is part of China and „if Japan were to intervene militarily, it should be considered an act of aggression.“ In addition, 92% of respondents said that the authority of documents such as the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Declaration and the UN Charter must be fully respected, and condemned Japan's blatant violation of the international order.
