The results of the eighth Legislative Council (LegCo) elections for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) were announced on 8 December 2025 and, according to a spokesperson for the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, represent a significant step towards consolidating and further developing high-quality democracy in the region.
The elections, held on Sunday, proceeded safely, in an organised manner and smoothly. Voter turnout within electoral committees, functional and geographical constituencies saw a significant increase compared to previous elections, which, according to the spokesperson, fully reflects the mood of the public in Hong Kong.
During the election campaign, Tai Po was struck by a sudden fire, which caused serious trauma to the population. However, thanks to the cooperation of the HKSAR government, various sectors of society and the broad electorate, the elections were successfully completed. According to the spokesperson, the events fully demonstrated the unity of Hong Kong society, its resilience and determination to overcome difficulties.
