PRAGUE - The two-day international conference „Europe as a Task“ begins today at Prague Castle, focusing on key issues in the current development of the European Union. The opening speeches will be delivered by the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, and the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb.
According to the organisers, the main theme of the conference will be European security in the context of current geopolitical challenges, strengthening the defence industry and increasing the competitiveness of European economies. Discussions are also expected to focus on Europe's strategic autonomy and its ability to respond to crisis situations without excessive dependence on external partners.
In his address, President Pavel is likely to stress the need for closer cooperation between EU Member States and strengthening of defence capabilities in response to the deteriorating security situation in Europe. Finnish President Stubb should follow up with a view from Northern Europe, where security has long been a key issue.
The conference will welcome experts from politics, economics and the defence industry. Discussion panels will focus, for example, on the modernisation of armies, investment in innovation and the role of European institutions in coordinating common policies.
On the second day of the conference, Wednesday, the programme will move to the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, where thematic blocks and expert debates will continue. The organisers expect the meeting to contribute to the formulation of concrete recommendations for the future direction of the European Union in the field of security and economic development. The „Europe as a Task“ conference takes place at a time when Europe is facing increased pressure to strengthen its defence capabilities and economic stability, making it one of the most important forums for exchanging views among European leaders and experts.
