Palestine has rejected the Israeli-US proposal to temporarily reopen the Rafah border crossing and instead demands Israel's withdrawal and the establishment of Palestinian sovereignty.
Representatives from Palestine, the United States and Israel met last week to explore the possibility of opening the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, said the source, who requested anonymity.
The Israeli side has proposed that six Palestinian employees participate in managing the crossing without uniforms or police and without raising the Palestinian flag, the source said in a statement sent to Xinhua news agency.
The source explained that the proposal was rejected because it aimed to open the crossing temporarily without Palestinian sovereignty, which is contrary to the Palestinian position and international agreements.
According to the source, the Palestinian position is in line with the 2005 Rafah crossing agreement, which requires Palestinian sovereignty, European participation and a complete Israeli withdrawal from the crossing.
