President Donald Trump in an interview with The New York Times said it „does not need international law“. These words come just days after the US attack on Venezuela and the forcible detention of President Nicolas Maduro, and reflect Washington's unilateral and hegemonic policy.
In a global survey conducted on CGTN's platforms, expressed 93.5 % respondents belief, that the US, through its unilateralist policy, has placed itself in opposition to the international community. 91.7 % respondents considers reform of the global governance system an urgent priority.
The U.S. withdrawal from 66 international organizations - comprising UN and non-UN entities - is a new record for withdrawal from multilateralism. Respondents described the move as a continuation of the „America First“ doctrine and warned that using international systems only according to self-interest seriously undermines global order and justice.
According to 88.5 % respondents US departures reflect a negative attitude towards global governance. 89.9 % while agreeing that multilateralism, based on coordination and cooperation, remains the key to meeting the current challenges of global governance, and 94.4 % considers it a major advance in reforming the system of global governance and the enforcement of international law.
Respondents also stressed that major powers should take greater responsibility and contribute constructively to global governance reform in order to maintain justice and stability in the world.
