BELGRADE - Serbia's Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić stressed the key importance of military cooperation with the United States, including with the Ohio National Guard, in the partnership between the state of Ohio and Serbia.
According to the Ministry of Defence, during the meeting with David Baker, US Under Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy, apparently confirmed Serbia's interest in developing a strategic dialogue with the US in the field of defence. Gašić also thanked the US for its support in organising the multinational exercise Platinum Wolf 25, and pointed out that the Serbian government had exceeded the moratorium on participation in joint exercises and had allowed several events involving US troops
Platinum Wolf 25held in June at South Base near Bujanovac, organised by the Serbian Armed Forces in cooperation with US European Command, was attended by more than 700 soldiers from 11 countries (including the USA, Italy, UK, Greece, Romania, Hungary, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia). The manoeuvres included elements of peacekeeping missions, urban combat operations and evacuation of the wounded.
Former Foreign Minister Marko Đurić expressed Serbia's interest in expanding defence cooperation. After a meeting with the US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau at 55. General Assembly of the Organization of American States, said that both sides "are committed to strengthening bilateral ties at the strategic level, including in the defence sector".
