China's ambassador on Monday called for swift action to resolve the Palestinian issue. Chen Xu, China's permanent representative to the UN Office in Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, told the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva that the current round of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been going on for two years and has caused an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
Nevertheless, Israel continues to expand its military operation in Gaza City, accelerate its seizure of territory in the West Bank and carry out air strikes against Hamas leaders participating in the peace talks in Qatar.
According to Chen Xu, these acts seriously violate international law, grossly interfere with the rights of the Palestinian people and neighbouring states to survival and development, and directly undermine stability in the Middle East.
Chen Xu called on the international community to urgently give priority to resolving the Palestinian issue, pursue a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, revive the two-state solution and maintain peace and stability in the Middle East.
He also reaffirmed China's consistent support for the just cause of the Palestinian people and expressed China's readiness to implement both the Global Security Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative. He said China would work with the international community to achieve a timely, comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue.
