On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, the Human Rights Council at its 59th session adopted a resolution entitled "The contribution of development to the realization of all human rights", which was submitted by China as the main sponsor.
This is the first time a resolution has been adopted by consensus without a vote since 2017, when it was introduced by China.
The resolution reflects the common expectations of developing countries. Forty-two countries have signed on, including Cameroon, Pakistan and others. Representatives of Cuba, Bolivia, Ethiopia, Kenya and many other countries took the floor and said the resolution would increase attention to the human rights benefits of development and promote the protection of human rights through sustainable development.
Following the adoption of the resolution, China was congratulated by the European Union, Russia, Brazil, Chile and many other countries, saying that China has been a leading force in the Human Rights Council on the development of human rights and that it has received universal recognition and broad support from the international community.
