PRAGUE – President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, has decided that the elections for the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic will be held on October 3rd and 4th, 2025, which is the latest possible date allowed by the Constitution. This information was released by the Communication Department of the President's Office on the official website of the Prague Castle.
The President of the Czech Republic, Pavel's, decision will be published in the Collection of Laws in the coming days. At that moment, the official election campaign will begin, during which political parties and movements will strive to gain the favor of voters. Parties and movements now have until July 29th to submit their candidate lists to the relevant regional authorities. These authorities will then assess the accuracy of the lists and, at the latest, by August 15th, will decide whether to approve the candidate lists for the elections. It is expected that this year's campaign will be marked by tension between the current ruling and opposition parties. The SPOLU coalition (ODS, KDU-ČSL, TOP 09) will attempt to defend its government positions, while the opposition, led by the ANO and SPD movements, will appeal to the dissatisfaction of a portion of the public, particularly in relation to the economic situation and rising inflation.
Political scientists point out that, this year, issues such as climate policy, security, and international relations may play a greater role than in the past, particularly in the context of the war in Ukraine and the security situation in Europe. Although the exact composition of the candidate lists is not yet known, many political leaders have already begun an unofficial campaign in the regions. At the same time, a more significant use of social networks and digital platforms is expected in reaching out to voters. The elections for the Chamber of Deputies will determine the balance of power in the lower house of Parliament for the next four years. Therefore, the participation of citizens in this crucial vote will be essential for the future direction of the Czech Republic.
