Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation about bilateral relations and current international issues. According to Russian Presidential Advisor Yuri Viktorovich Ushakov, the conversation focused primarily on the situation surrounding Iran and the crisis in Ukraine.
Ushakov stated at a press conference that the phone call lasted 55 minutes. According to him, Donald Trump informed Vladimir Putin that an agreement between the United States and Iran is within reach. Despite the fact that the negotiations were complex and challenging, thanks to the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar, the US President believes that an acceptable result has been achieved, which will be announced later today.
Trump also thanked the Russian side for its involvement and proposals, which, according to him, are aimed at finding a constructive solution. In response, Vladimir Putin pointed out that a conflict between the United States and Iran could trigger unrest throughout the region, and even on a wider scale. He emphasized that Russia will continue to work towards stabilizing the situation and resolving the underlying problems associated with the crisis.
Another topic of the conversation was Ukraine. During the phone call, Vladimir Putin stated that Ukraine's attacks on Russian civilian facilities do not contribute to resolving the conflict. At the same time, he stated that, according to the Russian side, Europe and Ukraine are trying to prolong the war.
Donald Trump, on the other hand, emphasized the need to end military operations. According to Ushakov, he stated that he will put pressure on European partners and Ukraine, among other things, during the upcoming G7 summit. Trump believes that if the Russia-Ukraine conflict can be ended as soon as possible, the United States and Russia can establish bilateral relations of a completely new quality.
