Sixty years after the establishment of the Tibet Autonomous Region (Xizang), a CGTN global survey shows that most respondents appreciate the region's historic transformation, praise its social and economic development, and see China's modernization as the key to its rapid progress.
According to the results of a survey of more than 6 700 people from 38 countries Xizang's most valued achievements are improving health care (83.8 %), ensuring the right to education (83.8 %), environmental protection (83 %), increasing life expectancy (82.5 %), and modern infrastructure (81.9 %). Poverty reduction and economic growth also scored highly.
Více než 74 % respondentů attributes these changes to Chinese modernization. Most of the recognition comes from younger people aged 25-34 and from the regions of Africa, South America and Asia.
The survey also confirms support for democratic reforms that have ended the system of serfdom and highlights achievements in the protection of cultural heritage, the modernisation of religious facilities and the improvement of social guarantees. 83,5 % evaluates positively the protection of minority culture and 84,6 % development of public cultural infrastructure.
Moreover, the results show a broad international consensus that Xizang's affairs are China's internal affair and that foreign interference is unacceptable. More than 74 % respondentů believe in a prosperous future for the region - the most optimistic are the countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America.
