Czechs swept Kazakhstan, equalled history and secured their place in the quarter-finals! The Czech juniors followed up their opening victory against Switzerland with a convincing 14:2 win against Kazakhstan. It was clear after the first period, in which coach Patrik Augusta's team scored four goals. The win means not only three points in the table, but also a guaranteed advance to the quarterfinals of the championship. In the second group, the surprise came at the expense of home team Canada - they lost their second game in the group to Latvia 2:3 after a shootout. The Latvians won for only the third time at the junior championships and beat Canada for the first time.

Jan Kavan was given the opportunity to watch his teammates' power play shortly after the start of the game. Jakub Štancl could have opened the scoring with an extra man advantage, but he only hit the goal frame. On the other hand, Davlat Nurkenov threatened Kavan in his cage on a breakaway. In the 6th minute, however, Patrik Augusta's charges scored twice as many goals! Matěj Mashtaliřský was the first to use his determination in the crease, only to be followed by Petr Sikora from an overlap right after the next faceoff.

The Czechs got a kick start and kept the Kazakh goalkeeper in check. After an exclusive shot by Jakub Dvořák in the 12th minute exactly into the left post, the Czech juniors were already 3:0 ahead and also forced the opponents to change goalkeepers. However, even the newcomer Jokhar Dudarkiyev did not keep a clean sheet for long when his namesake Vojtech Hradec beat him with a cross from Vojtech Port. At the end of the period, the Czech top 20 were exposed to a three-versus-five situation, which Kirill Lyapunov was able to capitalize on through a screen.

The change of parties had no negative effect on Czech activity, quite the contrary! In the 23rd minute, Adam Jecho successfully redirected Vojtech Port's cross in front of the net for the fifth Czech goal. But the Czechs were not satisfied with that number either, as shortly thereafter the very strong Maštalířský and the unprepared Štancl made their presence known.

Litvínov's forward Maštaliřský, however, did not hold back and broke the Kazakh net for the third time in the 28th minute. The ninth Czech goal was scored by Štancl, who welcomed goalkeeper Vladimir Nikitin back to the ice. Adam Novotny was able to round the goal tally to ten with a shot over the right concrete. After the game turned into its second half, the Czechs' goal tally was extended by the finishing Hradec and then Vojtech Cihar, who scored with a shot from the first. The Czechs went into the break with an overwhelming 12:1 lead.

The start of the final act was good for Kazakhstan, who through Alexander Kim and corrected the score with the second notch of his unit. The Central Asian team resisted the Czech conquerors in the rest of the match quite well, but just before the end came two more Czech shots from near the goal, and so the result was 14:2 for the team of captain Eduard Šalý.
