April 10 - US President Donald Trump immediately and temporarily reduces tariffs for most countries, while increasing them for China
WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump announced an immediate reduction in tariff rates on imports from most countries. The new measure introduces a temporary tariff of ten percent for a period of 90 days. An exception to this decision is China, for which tariffs on its goods have been increased from 104 to 125 percent. (More here)
April 10 - Slovak Parliament approves compensation for fines from the COVID-19 era
BRATISLAVA – The Slovak Parliament today approved a law on compensation for people who received fines in the country for violating epidemic restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, or who paid for meals in quarantine facilities during that period. The government, led by Prime Minister Robert Fico, estimates the cost of the compensation at over three million euros (over 75 million Czech crowns). (More here)
April 10 - Unified entrance exams for secondary schools began in the Czech Republic, and student interest has again increased.
PRAGUE – On Friday, April 11, the unified entrance exams for four-year secondary school programs began. This year, approximately 98,130 students registered for the exams, according to information from the Ministry of Education, which is about 4,000 more than last year. The first round of exams took place today, and the second will be held on Monday, April 14. The exams consist of tests in Czech language and mathematics, and the results will play a key role in admission to secondary schools. (More here)
