David Štěpán, chairman of the Směr Česká republika party, praised the statement by Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding the risks of artificial intelligence. According to Štěpán, the warning against the misuse of AI as a military tool accurately reflects the idea presented by Karel Čapek in his play R.U.R. from 1920, where robots wipe out humanity.
Štěpán emphasized that the problem is not the development of AI itself, but rather that robots are not being imbued with human qualities such as compassion or love. He fully agrees with the position of the Chinese president that AI must serve people and improve their lives, rather than enriching multinational corporations or being used as a weapon that could turn against humanity.
Therefore, Štěpán supported the appeal from the Shanghai conference for artificial intelligence to always remain in service of humanity.
