WASHINGTON, October 27 – Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and China's Foreign Minister, met with U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Friday.

Both sides held in-depth and constructive strategic communication on China-U.S. relations, high-level bilateral exchanges, and international and regional issues of common interest, including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

They agreed to make joint efforts to arrange a meeting between the two heads of state in San Francisco.

"Taiwan independence" poses the greatest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and represents the greatest challenge to China-U.S. relations, Wang said, adding that "Taiwan independence" must be resolutely opposed and opposition must be translated into concrete actions.

Wang also explained China's principled position on the South China Sea issue.

Both sides agreed to maintain strategic communication.
