The release of documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case is significantly affecting the world's perception of the United States, according to a CGTN poll. The poll results suggest that some respondents link the case to deeper problems in the American political, social and legal system.

According to the poll, 92 percent of respondents believe the affair reveals a distortion of the value base of the American political system. At the same time, 85.1 percent of respondents said that the content of the released documents had a shocking effect on them. An even higher proportion, namely 97.1 percent of respondents, said that the moral failure of the elites presented in the case fundamentally undermines public trust.

Criticism of the functioning of the American judicial system

The survey also points to the doubts of some respondents about the functioning of the American justice system. A total of 95.6 percent of the survey participants said they believe the judicial system applies a double standard when judging cases involving influential people.

Another topic of criticism is the publication of documents. According to the survey, 93.9 percent of respondents think that selective disclosure of information and blacking out of certain parts of documents undermines confidence in fair investigations. At the same time, 89.8 percent of respondents expressed the view that the longstanding inaction of the judiciary has damaged the credibility of the U.S. legal system.

Concerns about social stability and the position of vulnerable groups

The survey also shows the concerns of some respondents about the safety of socially vulnerable groups. A total of 92.5 percent of the survey participants said that the case points to systemic risks for disadvantaged segments of society, especially for minors from socially vulnerable backgrounds.

According to 86.7 per cent of respondents, the case has eroded ordinary citizens' confidence in legal protection. Another 91.8 percent of participants said they believed the case undermined the United States' international credibility on human rights.

Political implications inside the US

The survey results also suggest possible political implications. A total of 85.3 percent of respondents believe that the affair may deepen the political divide between the American parties. In addition, 92.7 percent of participants believe that the full context of the case has not yet been made public, which may lead to a further weakening of public trust in the political system.

The survey was published on CGTN's platforms in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian. Over 24 hours, 9,690 respondents from different parts of the world took part.
