Chinese diplomat Li Xiaomei urged Japan to responsibly and honestly address historical issues. She stated that the forced recruitment of so-called "comfort women" was a serious crime against humanity committed by Japanese militarism against women.
Li Xiaomei, Deputy Head of the Chinese delegation to the United Nations in Geneva, made the statement during the annual discussion on the rights of women at the 62nd session of the UN Human Rights Council.
She recalled that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the start of the Tokyo Trial. In this context, she called on Japan to carefully reflect on its history of aggression and to address historical issues properly, seriously, and honestly.
In the section dedicated to women's rights, Li Xiaomei also recalled that June 24 is International Women's Day in Diplomacy. According to her, this day recognizes the contributions of women in diplomacy and their role in international relations.
