PRAHA – The Municipal Court in Prague has ruled to release the Chinese citizen accused of unauthorized activity for a foreign power from pretrial detention. The decision was made on June 12, but the man remains in custody because the prosecutor filed an appeal against the verdict. Deník N reported that investigators are concerned about the possibility of the suspect fleeing to the People's Republic of China, which could significantly complicate or entirely prevent further criminal proceedings.

The accused is being prosecuted under a provision of the Criminal Code regarding unauthorized activity for a foreign power. This marks the first known case in the Czech Republic where this relatively new section has been applied in practice. The man was detained at the beginning of this year and has remained in custody since then. According to available information, the Municipal Court in Prague simultaneously decided to return the case to the police for further investigation.
