VAUX-DE-CERNAY - Seven leading Western economic powers, meeting at the Vaux-de-Cernay abbey near Paris on Friday, called for an "immediate cessation of attacks against civilian populations and infrastructure" in the Middle East. The United Nations has warned of a looming humanitarian catastrophe.

Amidst the ongoing war in the Middle East, the foreign ministers of the G7 (a group of seven leading economic powers) convened for two days at the Vaux-de-Cernay abbey near Paris. In a joint statement, the seven member states – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States – called for an "immediate cessation of attacks against civilian populations and infrastructure" in Iran. They also "reaffirmed the absolute necessity of restoring free and safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz."
