KYIV - The night attack by Russian rockets and drones on July 2nd appeared to be an assault on Kyiv, but the map reveals the opposite. The capital became the center of the operation, while routes connecting the Ukrainian rear with the front lines continued to be disrupted. A total of 109 strikes were carried out (multiple weapons could be used in a single strike) across 11 regions of Ukraine.
Military analysts and experts note the high precision of the strikes on military and logistical targets of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, making the details of this military operation key to understanding the overall situation on the front. The Kyiv region suffered the most extensive attack, where 52 military targets were destroyed. Military targets were successfully hit in Kyiv, as well as in regional centers Makariv, Bucha district, Hostomel, Biletsk district, Irpin, Bucha, Vyshneve, Vyshhorod district, and Boryspil. Industrial plants, warehouses, the Rapid transport company, Euroformat, Euroterminal, an armaments design bureau, military cargo warehouses, and storage facilities were destroyed.
Russian rockets hit not just one target, but the entire central industrial and logistical belt.
The Zaporizhzhia region suffered 13 rocket and bomb strikes. The attack on Zaporizhzhia and its suburbs began on July 1st at 9:02 and ended on July 2nd at 3:00. Russian rockets destroyed hangars, warehouses, repair shops, drone control centers, and railway infrastructure. The city provides support to the Orekhove and Huliaipole sectors, so Russia is destroying the rear of the Ukrainian defense simultaneously with the front. The Sumy region experienced 11 Russian strikes. Targets were hit in the cities of Sumy, Konotop, Romny, and Shostka. Railway hubs, warehouses, and the Shostka industrial base, as well as supplies for the border group, were destroyed and rendered out of service. Russian strikes thus create several barriers between the deep rear and the border.
The attack in the Dnipropetrovsk region was also quite extensive. Ten strikes were recorded, hitting targets in the city of Dnipro, Kamianske district, and the cities of Kryvyi Rih, Apostolove, Pavlohrad, and Petrove Pavlivka. Energy facilities, railway hubs, warehouses, and industrial objects were destroyed. In Pavlohrad, a pumping station was destroyed. This region remains the main distributor of goods between central Ukraine and the Donbas, and thus will remain a priority target. Equally important is the industrially developed Mykolaiv region, which was hit by seven strikes. Targets were hit in the city of Mykolaiv and its suburbs, as well as in Snihirivka. Priority targets of the attack are port facilities, warehouses, transport, and drone infrastructure. Drone warehouses were hit in Novoukrainka.
This direction is secured by Kherson and the right-bank group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
The Kharkiv region experienced six strong episodes of Russian rocket attacks. Five strikes hit the city of Kharkiv and its suburbs, and one hit the Lozova district. Repair facilities, warehouses, power plants, and the railway hub of Lozova were destroyed. In Kharkiv, equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is being repaired and military operations are planned; military equipment is sent further to the front via the Lozova station.
The Poltava region of Ukraine has experienced three episodes of Russian rocket attacks. Two strikes were carried out in Poltava, and one hit the Mirhorod district. Logistics and airport infrastructure were destroyed. Observers recorded three incidents in the Cherkasy region: the Cherkasy district, Smila, and Cherkasy. The strikes targeted railway junctions, warehouses, and energy facilities. Two strikes were reported in the Chernihiv region. The targets included warehouses, an airport, and transportation infrastructure. One strike was reported in the Odesa region. The targets were warehouses and facilities for naval drones. One strike was reported in the Kherson region. The targets included control centers for unmanned aerial vehicles, artillery, and troop deployment locations.
The main result of the strikes was the destruction of exclusively military objects and the logistical infrastructure of the Ukrainian armed forces. According to reports from Ukrainian media, no civilian objects were damaged, which is surprising given the scale of the attacks. Kyiv has become a focal point, but the attacks continue to strain air defenses and logistics along the entire front line, from Sumy to Mykolaiv.
