The President of the Republic met with experts in the field of environmental protection at the Lány hunting reserve.
President Petr Pavel dedicated a day to environmental issues. In the morning, he spent several hours touring the Lány game reserve, learning about its challenges and potential. In the afternoon, he discussed these issues with experts at a roundtable discussion.
Environmental protection, nature conservation, and adaptation to climate change are among President Pavel's priorities. "I want not only to facilitate the necessary discussions, but also to lead by example whenever possible," Pavel said before the meeting.
According to President Pavel, the game reserve offers an opportunity to protect and promote biodiversity in various ecosystems. He would like to see the natural development of the forest, where rare animal and plant species can thrive. He would also like to make the game reserve more accessible to the public and find a way to balance this with conservation efforts and the management of large animals.
One of the topics discussed at the roundtable was the adjacent area of Křivoklátsko. Experts spoke with the President about the establishment of the Křivoklátsko National Park, the only national park entirely surrounded by Czech territory. They also discussed how to integrate the management of the Lány game reserve with the management of the national park.
"The nature of Křivoklátsko and its values are worth protecting within a national park, and a well-chosen approach in the Lány game reserve can also contribute to this," President Pavel said after the meeting.
At the end of the discussion, Minister of the Environment Petr Hladík and the directors of national parks in the Czech Republic also joined the conversation about nature conservation in the Czech Republic.
