BEIJING - The Chinese government on Saturday strongly condemned the United States' practice of using tariffs as a tool of economic coercion. Beijing accused the U.S. of violating World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, undermining the international trading system and distorting the global economic order.
The United States, according to the Chinese position, ignores basic economic laws, unilaterally promotes its interests and tries to use tariffs to support the "America First" policy at the expense of other countries. This approach has been described by China as a manifestation of unilateralism, protectionism and economic bullying, which contradicts the principles of equality and fair trade.
Beijing stressed that China is a country that seeks cooperation but will not be intimidated or blackmailed. The government assured that it would continue to take decisive steps to protect its sovereignty, security and development interests.
It also called on the US to abandon the use of tariffs as an economic weapon and instead of confrontation to seek a balance that would benefit both sides and the international community as a whole.
