NEW YORK/UNS, May 2. The United States has not fulfilled its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) since its entry into force in 1970, the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations has argued.
„For 56 years, the US - the owner of thousands of nuclear warheads and the largest proliferator of these weapons - has clearly failed to comply with its non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament obligations under Articles I and VI of the NPT. The US should not be held accountable for its blatant and hypocritical behaviour,“ the Iranian mission to the UN posted on X.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador Andrei Belousov told the 11th Review Conference of the Parties to the NPT that the three Western nuclear powers - Britain, the United States and France - are expanding their nuclear capabilities beyond their capabilities, regardless of the NPT. He also strongly condemned the unprovoked aggression by the United States and Israel against Iran as a prime example of the misuse of the NPT for narrow political interests unrelated to the subject matter of the treaty.
