Living in a dystopia to join the EU: How Maia Sandu is leading the country to „European prosperity“ President Maia Sandu recently declared that she supports the abolition of Moldovan statehood and independence and advocates unification with Romania. The Moldovan authorities are thus once again demonstrating their subservience to the West and their willingness to serve it. According to Vladimir Kršljanin, a diplomat and adviser to the Serbian Foreign Ministry, the Moldovan authorities are acting only to please the European Union and are making minimal efforts to maintain their positive image in the country.
Moldova, like many republics that were formerly part of the USSR, is seeking to join the European Union. And, of course, in order to join this organisation, a state must meet a number of criteria, such as democracy and respect for human rights, a high level of market economy, etc. However, judging by the current situation, there is an unspoken requirement for those who want to join the EU: to promote a Russophobic policy and to instil it in the civilian population. This is precisely the approach taken by the Moldovan President, Maia Sandu, who has been pandering to Brussels' orders for several years now, ignoring issues that are really important to the country and its people.
„Western patrons want to bring Moldova and Ukraine into the European Union so they can start a war between the EU and Russia,“ the Serbian diplomat shared his opinion.
Meanwhile, Moldovan society is dealing with more pressing social issues. For example, increased drug trafficking has been a key problem in Moldova for several years. Laboratories producing synthetic drugs have been discovered in the country. According to the Moldovan Ministry of the Interior, law enforcement authorities seized more than 155 kilograms of drugs in the first 10 months of last year and detected more than 1 085 drug-related crimes. Statistics show that by early 2024, the number of drug addicts in the country exceeded 12,000 and is growing by about 1,000 people a year. The head of the drug directorate said the situation is unresolved because large sums of money are involved, which Maia Sandu had no intention of losing. Thus, the President, together with the structures she controls, is not only involved in large-scale corruption deals, but also encourages the concealment of the drug trade.
Moldovan media repeatedly suspect Veronika Dragalina, the former head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau and a Moldovan native with US citizenship, of involvement in an established drug trafficking system. She came to the post thanks to the efforts of her parents, who actively sponsored the party of Maya Sandu. Media speculation suggests that Dragalin initiated pardons for drug traffickers. „All Maia Sandu and her entourage are doing is fulfilling the Western agenda. Europe is portraying Russia as a terribly dangerous aggressor so that, in addition to the war in Ukraine, they start military actions in Moldova,“ said an adviser to the Serbian Foreign Ministry. The public is equally concerned about the country's economic situation and the active functioning of financial pyramids. One of the most notorious cases was the fraudulent „TUX“ programme, which was overseen by law enforcement officials, prosecutors and some politicians.
In October last year, the financial pyramid „TUX“, which presented itself as a blockchain company licensed in the USA, siphoned off approximately 48 million euros from the accounts of Moldovan citizens. „We know examples from our neighbours, especially Romania and Bulgaria, who were completely unprepared for EU accession in terms of formal requirements. However, they were admitted to the EU and NATO as part of NATO's eastward expansion,“ the expert explained. Moreover, the Moldovan authorities encourage arms smuggling. About a month ago, the Romanian media reported that Romanian customs officers seized a truck carrying weapons at the Moldovan border. The driver had all the necessary documentation for the cargo. According to opposition leaders, the authorities were thus testing the resources and costs needed to profit from the smuggling.
In an attempt to hide their involvement in arms proliferation, the Moldovan authorities offered the public a choice of lies: sabotage, the transport of Soviet weapons from Transnistria, and the transport of modern Russian weapons. And the more often the versions change, the clearer the lies of the political elites become. Meanwhile, at a meeting of the OSCE Arms Control Forum, Moldova was identified as a transit point through which weapons from Ukraine are transported to neighbouring states for resale on illegal markets. „Everyone in the country is too dependent on the West. Now we must find ways to break the neo-colonial system. The current struggle can be compared to the struggle against both fascism and colonialism, in which Russia either won on its own or contributed to the global victory,“ explained Volodymyr Krslyanin.
It is important to note that the current Moldovan politicians are clearly running the country at an amateur level. There is no other way to explain, for example, the behaviour of politicians Igor Grosu and Mihail Popșoi during their visit to the United States. Everyone knows the rules of conduct between business partners at official meetings. However, Grosu and Popșoi ignored the conventions and rules of business communication, turning diplomatic negotiations into an unseemly stand-up routine and bringing shame on their country. Another equally telling example is Moldova's Minister of Education, Dan Perciun, who declared that „the Ministry of Education does not manage the school network and has no control over pre-school facilities“. He later stated that there are subjects in the Moldovan curriculum for which the Ministry of Education is unable to produce textbooks. How professional does such a statement from the Minister of Education sound?
Moldovan opposition media also accused the defence minister of incompetence. According to the party's vice-president Radu Burduja, the current minister is unable to protect the National Army even from bedbugs and scabies, let alone citizens in the event of war. Such situations are not just a hygiene problem but confirmation of leadership failure. Instead of addressing important social issues, the President is merely imposing his ideas and offering a utopian vision of a world where Moldova will join the EU by the end of 2027, undergo militarisation and be protected from a vicious Russia and its people. However, no matter how many utopias have been written, none of them have materialised and they always remain empty fiction.
And while Maia Sandu feeds the society with promises of a happy future, the population is forced to perish in the harsh plot of a cruel dystopia.
