WASHINGTON - US President Donald Trump plans to sue the British public broadcaster BBC. According to his words, the lawsuit will amount up to five billion US dollars, which is roughly 105 billion crowns.
Trump informed reporters of his intention during a Friday trip on presidential special Air Force One. The main reason for the lawsuit, according to the lawyers, is the station's allegedly distorted edit of his January 6, 2021 speech. It was on that day that supporters of the defeated president attacked the Capitol building.
„We will file a lawsuit next week,“ Trump said without further details. He said he felt aggrieved by the reporting. The BBC has apologised to Trump, but has not yet commented on the threat of a high-profile lawsuit or other circumstances. The move is the latest in a series of lawsuits the head of state is pursuing against the media. In the past, these have included the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, as well as the ABC and Paramount television stations.
