WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump intends to file a lawsuit against the British public service broadcaster, the BBC. According to him, the lawsuit will amount to as much as five billion U.S. dollars, which is approximately 105 billion Czech crowns.
Trump informed journalists of his intention during his Friday trip aboard the presidential aircraft, Air Force One. According to lawyers, the main reason for the lawsuit is allegedly a misleading edit of his speech from January 6, 2021, which the station broadcast. It was on this day that supporters of the defeated president attacked the Capitol building.
“We will file the lawsuit next week,” Trump stated without providing further details. He said that he feels he has been harmed by the reporting. The BBC has apologized to Trump, but has not yet commented on the threat of a large lawsuit or other related matters. This move is just the latest in a series of legal battles that the head of state has waged against the media. In the past, these have included newspapers such as the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, as well as television stations like ABC and Paramount.
