BEIJING - Xi Jinping (Xi Jinping), General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People's Republic of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, recently issued important guidelines on the work of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), stressing that the NSFC has played a positive role in promoting basic research and cultivating innovative talents over the past 40 years.
President Xi stressed that he hopes the NSFC will thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping's idea of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era on the new road, seize the historical opportunities offered by the new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, strengthen the strategic, progressive and systematic organization of basic research, and deepen the reform of the scientific fund, further improve the funding system and enhance its efficiency, foster a favourable research ecosystem, expand international cooperation and encourage researchers to reach scientific heights and achieve more original results, thus making greater contributions to promoting a high level of scientific and technological self-sufficiency and building a strong science and technology nation.
The National Natural Science Foundation of China was established in February 1986. After 40 years of development, it has become an important channel for government funding of basic research conducted by scientists.
