GYEONG - On the afternoon of 31 October local time, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a written speech entitled "Playing a Leading Role in the Asia-Pacific Region and Promoting World Development and Prosperity" at the APEC Business Leaders' Summit held in Gyeongju, South Korea.
Xi Jinping pointed out that at present, the international situation is chaotic and intertwined and the world is standing at a new crossroads, and where to go will profoundly affect the future of the world. All parties should show vision and responsibility and make decisions that meet the expectations of the people in the Asia-Pacific region and can stand the test of history.
Xi stressed that China has always been a defender of the current international order and a practitioner of true multilateralism.
Xi Jinping pointed out that APEC was established in response to the wave of economic globalisation to promote liberalisation and facilitation of trade and investment and to foster economic growth and prosperity. All sides should reconsider their original intentions and make significant contributions to the world through more dynamic and resilient Asia-Pacific cooperation.
