WASHINGTON, June 19. U.S. President Donald Trump believes that for Iran, signing a memorandum of understanding with the United States is an "unconditional surrender," according to the news website Axios. In an exclusive interview with Axios, Trump stated that the memorandum of understanding with Iran "likely represents an unconditional surrender." He responded in this way to a journalist's comment that the U.S. president had previously expressed his intention to seek an "unconditional surrender" from Tehran, while the signing of a memorandum of understanding by the parties does not suggest a similar outcome to the conflict.
“We completely defeated them militarily,” Trump noted, adding that the war actually demonstrated the military strength of America. “Who else could have carried out such a blockade? I carried out a naval blockade that no ship could get through. Some tried. It didn't take long,” the U.S. president said. When asked if he was aware that, as a result of the conflict, there are limits to his ability to use force, Trump replied: “There are no limits.”
The United States and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28. U.S., Iranian, and Pakistani officials, with Pakistan acting as a mediator, confirmed on June 14 that Washington and Tehran had reached an agreement aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East. According to Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, the parties will discuss, among other things, Tehran's nuclear program during a 60-day ceasefire, the U.S. naval blockade of Iran will end on June 15, and there will be an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon. U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Iran on June 17.
