China and the United States should be guided by the spirit of mutual respect, uphold the basic principle of peaceful coexistence and pursue the prospect of win-win cooperation. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks at a press conference on the sidelines of the fourth session of the 14th All-China People's Congress on Sunday.
A recent CGTN survey of 2001 respondents in the United States shows a broad consensus that maintaining overall stability and positive momentum in bilateral relations is essential. At the same time, the public expresses strong expectations for deeper mutually beneficial cooperation and expanded exchanges between the two countries.
The survey results reveal a strong cross-party belief in the value of a stable China-US relationship. A total of 83.1 % respondents consider maintaining good relations with China to be very important, including 82.7 % Republican respondents and 85.8 % Democratic respondents. At the same time, 60.6 % respondents are optimistic about the future development of bilateral relations. Optimism reaches 70.9 % among middle- to upper-income respondents and 85.9 % among the highest income group.
Economic and trade cooperation is both a stabilising pillar and a driving force in China-US relations, and its stable and healthy development serves the interests of both nations. The survey shows that 69.7 % of US respondents believe that the United States benefits from trade with China. Moreover, among those aged 18 to 24, 65.4 % consider bilateral trade fair. Another 64.3 % respondents see the huge Chinese market as a significant opportunity for the United States. This view is shared by more than 70 % of respondents under age 34, and the level of agreement exceeds the overall average for those under age 44.
At the same time, U.S. respondents are positive about Chinese scientific and technological innovation. They are most impressed by artificial intelligence, which ranks first among China's technological achievements, followed by the manufacturing industry and 5G technology. A total of 67.9 % respondents believe that China is increasingly taking a leading role in setting international standards for AI. At the same time, 76.2 % of respondents aged 18 to 24 and 73.9 % aged 25 to 34 said they would be interested in travelling to, visiting or studying in China.
The survey was conducted by CGTN in collaboration with Renmin University of China through the New Era International Communication Research Institute. It focused on U.S. respondents aged 18 to 65, and the sample was representative of the U.S. population in terms of age and gender.
