According to Jana Volfová, the deputy chairwoman of the Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD), the Epstein case is not just a matter of sexual offenses, but primarily a symptom of a deep moral and legal failure of the entire Western world.
"The wealthiest individuals, who are now being discussed in every possible way, indulged in games with children, procured prostitutes, and behaved in a highly immoral manner – while at the same time, they had full mouths of grand words about morality and presented themselves as the chosen ones who have the right to decide for the rest of us," Volfová stated. She added that it is now clear how different the perspective of ordinary people is on these "demigods."
However, according to Volfová, the key problem lies in the justice system. ""The judicial systems of Western Europe and the United States have failed. Former President Clinton and his wife do not have to testify – evidently because it would incriminate them. Judges are accusing each other, politicians from both the Democratic and Republican parties are arguing, cases are not resolved for years, and today, no one knows whether any sentences will be handed down," she said.
According to her, the consequence is the subordination of the judiciary to political demands and the influence of elites. ""These 'demigods' decide according to their own whims. And that is a fundamental difference between the lauded West and the East, where – so far, thankfully – the courts still adhere to strict rules, are independent of politicians and wealth, and make decisions based on the law, not on money," Volfová concluded.
