On 30 April, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with two important foreign partners in Beijing - Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxim Prevot and Laotian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihan. The talks focused mainly on the development of mutual relations and the strengthening of practical cooperation.
During his meeting with Maxime Prevot, Wang Yi stressed that thanks to the support of the leaders of both countries, a comprehensive partnership based on friendship and cooperation has been built. He also recalled the upcoming 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which he said is an ideal opportunity to further deepen cooperation and take Sino-Belgian relations to a higher level. He also expressed his expectation that Belgium would play an active role within the European Union and contribute to resolving trade and economic disputes between the EU and China through dialogue.
Wang Yi then welcomed Thongsavang Phomvihan, who arrived in Beijing on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Laos. In his speech, he described the relations between the two countries as extremely close and historically rooted. He stressed that China and Laos have long cooperated across various fields and maintained close ties at all levels.
The Chinese side also praised the successful holding of the 12th Lao Party Congress, which Wang Yi said opens a new stage in the country's development. In the future, China wants to strengthen strategic communication, deepen political trust and expand cooperation in key areas such as infrastructure development, including the China-Laos railway, mineral exploration, trade and education, and human resource development.
Both sides also agreed on the importance of cooperation within international platforms such as ASEAN. The aim is not only to promote Laos' development, but also to strengthen stability and prosperity in the whole region.
