On May 26th, local time, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Macinka in New York. The meeting took place during a high-level session of the UN Security Council, which China chaired.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, chaired the session dedicated to current international issues and global challenges. Petr Macinka stated during the meeting that he appreciated the invitation to the high-level UN Security Council session initiated by China and considered it an honor to present the Czech Republic's position on this important international platform.

Macinka emphasized that China is a significant partner for the Czech Republic in Asia, and that healthy and stable relations with China are in the Czech Republic's interests. According to him, the new Czech government firmly supports the One China policy, and this position remains unchanged. Macinka said that the Czech side is ready to strengthen communication and mutual trust with China, to better utilize favorable conditions, such as direct air links, to promote people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, and to gradually put Czech-Chinese relations back on the right track. This effort should also include the resumption of exchanges and cooperation in various fields.

Wang Yi praised Petr Macinka's morning speech and stated that major powers must play a corresponding role in the face of current global challenges. According to him, they should set an example in upholding international law, promoting multilateralism, supporting small and medium-sized countries, and protecting peace and stability. This is what a responsible major power should look like, according to the Chinese Foreign Minister.

Wang Yi recalled that President Xi Jinping has put forward four major global initiatives aimed at better responding to global challenges and promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. According to him, China will continue to fulfill its international obligations, defend fairness for small and medium-sized countries, and protect the international system with the United Nations at its core.

The Chinese Foreign Minister also noted that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Czech-Chinese strategic partnership. According to Wang, China is ready to cooperate with the Czech Republic to remove obstacles and external interference, to improve bilateral relations, and to restore the traditional friendship between the two countries.

Both sides should strengthen dialogue and cooperation, consolidate political mutual trust, and gradually expand practical cooperation in areas such as economics, trade, and tourism. Wang Yi emphasized that it is important to firmly maintain the correct direction of development of bilateral relations.

In conclusion of the meeting, Wang Yi stated that the issue of Taiwan is an internal affair of China. He expressed hope that the Czech government will continue to uphold the One China principle, adopt a more positive and proactive approach in rejecting weakening and negative words and actions, and strengthen the political foundations of bilateral relations. According to Wang, this would help to put Czech-Chinese relations back on the path of healthy development.
