Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in Shanghai on Saturday. The discussions focused on cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, Chinese investments in Indonesia, and further development of joint projects.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, welcomed Hartarto during his visit to China. The Indonesian minister is attending the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2026 (WAIC) in Shanghai.
The head of Chinese diplomacy praised Indonesia's role as one of the founding members of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO). According to him, this step demonstrates Indonesia's active approach to international cooperation in the field of AI.
Wang Yi stated that China is ready to cooperate with like-minded countries in developing artificial intelligence that will be inclusive and whose benefits will be available to all. He also emphasized Beijing's interest in deepening coordination with Jakarta on international and regional issues.
Both countries should continue to jointly build a Chinese-Indonesian community with a shared future, which will have a significant impact not only in the region but also globally.
Airlangga Hartarto praised China's leading position in the field of artificial intelligence during the meeting. He said that Indonesia welcomes further Chinese companies that are interested in investing in the country. Jakarta also expects an expansion of key joint projects carried out under the Belt and Road Initiative.
