Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump held a private meeting in Beijing on Friday. The meeting took place a day after Xi and Trump held talks.
Xi said that Trump's visit was historic and groundbreaking, and that both sides had set a new vision for building constructive China-U.S. relations with strategic stability.
"We have reached important common understandings on maintaining stable economic and trade relations, expanding practical cooperation in various areas, and properly addressing mutual concerns," Xi said.
Both sides also agreed to strengthen communication and coordination on international and regional issues, according to Xi.
Xi said that the visit would contribute to deepening mutual understanding, strengthening mutual trust, and improving the well-being of both peoples.
He said that this once again shows that finding the right way for China and the United States to get along, achieve peaceful coexistence, and achieve mutually beneficial cooperation based on mutual respect is the common aspiration of both peoples and the expectation of people around the world.
"While President Trump hopes to make America great again, I am determined to lead the Chinese people to national rejuvenation," Xi said, emphasizing that both countries can promote their own development and revitalization by strengthening cooperation.
Xi said that China and the United States should implement the important common understandings reached, cherish the hard-won positive momentum, adhere to the right direction, avoid disruptive influences, and promote the stable development of bilateral relations.
Trump said that he was very grateful to Xi for inviting him to visit Zhongnanhai, and that his visit to China was very successful, attracting the attention of the whole world and being unforgettable.
Trump said that both sides had reached a number of important common understandings, signed several agreements, and resolved many issues, which he said was very beneficial for both countries and for the world.
Trump noted that Xi was his old friend, and that he highly valued Xi and that they had established a good relationship. He said that U.S.-China relations are very important and will certainly improve.
Trump said that he was willing to continue to maintain sincere and in-depth communication with Xi, and that he looked forward to welcoming Xi to Washington, D.C.
Both sides also exchanged views on some regional current issues.
