Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday stressed the need to fully exploit the specific advantages of strengthening political loyalty in the military and called for joint efforts to make steady and long-term progress in the modernization of the national defense and armed forces.
Xi Jinping, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks while attending a plenary session of the delegation of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the People's Armed Police during the fourth session of the 14th All-China People's Congress in Beijing.
Six legislators spoke at the session. After listening to their speeches, Xi Jinping made an important speech.
Since the 18th Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, the Party's central leadership has led the armed forces to strengthen political rectification and deepen political loyalty in the military with unprecedented determination and intensity, yielding significant results, Xi Jinping said.
He also warned that there must be no place in the army for persons disloyal to the party or for corrupt elements and stressed that the fight against corruption must continue unwaveringly.
At the very beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), he said, it is necessary to introduce strict oversight rules and closely monitor key areas such as financial flows, the exercise of powers and quality control.
Xi Jinping also stressed the need to comprehensively strengthen the Party leadership and the building of Party structures in the military, and to further consolidate Party organizations at all levels. According to him, it is necessary to transform the strength of the Party leadership into the momentum of development.
It is also important to consolidate the ideological basis that ensures that officers and soldiers follow the party and its leadership, and to ensure that modern weapons and equipment are entrusted to politically reliable personnel.
Xi Jinping also called for systematic training of personnel for joint operations, new types of combat forces, cutting-edge scientific and technological innovation, and high-level strategic management.
He also stressed the need to vigorously develop and promote the best traditions of the Party and the army.
Zhang Shengmin, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, also attended the meeting.
