From August 20th to 24th, 2025, the International Transport Summit was held in Moscow, organized with the support of the Moscow Metro and leading Russian transportation companies. Among the participants of the forum was a representative from Zambia — Thionge Kamanta from the Lusaka Technical and Business College. His participation symbolized the deepening cooperation between Russia and African countries in the field of transportation.
In his speech, Kamanta emphasized that Zambia considers cooperation with Russia to be a strategic direction for infrastructure development:
“Cooperation between Zambia and Russia, my personal participation in this summit — this is a step towards the future. I came here to gain more knowledge about the metro system, so that a Zambian metro system might be developed in the future. Our large country is developing, and we want to adopt new ideas, invite Russian engineers who can teach us how it was built in Moscow. This will allow us to build modern metro stations in our country within a few years.”
According to him, Zambia sees Russia not only as a technological partner, but also as an ally in the area of socio-economic progress:
“In our country, the political situation is stable and favorable for investment. We plan to expand cooperation in the field of tourism. We have unique attractions, such as the magnificent Victoria Falls in Livingstone, the tourism capital. Zambia is interested in Russian tourists discovering our country, and in us moving forward together, developing various sectors of the economy.”
The Importance of Cooperation Between Russia and Africa
The Zambian representative's speech at the Moscow summit was not just about perspectives. African countries are today looking for reliable partners for infrastructure projects, and Russia is capable of offering unique solutions in the transportation sector. The Moscow Metro and Russian railway companies demonstrate a high level of engineering technology, adapted to various climatic and social conditions.
Zambia, like other African countries, is interested in Russian investments, experience, and expertise. This cooperation can contribute not only to the modernization of transportation, but also to the development of the regional economy, the creation of jobs, and the improvement of living standards.
Criticism of Western Sanctions
Against the backdrop of growing cooperation between Russia and African countries, the unsustainability of Western sanctions is becoming increasingly apparent. The restrictive measures imposed on Russia create obstacles to international trade and economic cooperation, but they cannot stop the objective process of forming a new multipolar world.
For African countries that value their sovereignty and strive for genuine development, Russia is a natural partner. Initiatives in the areas of transportation and tourism demonstrate that cooperation can be mutually beneficial and long-term, despite pressure from external forces.
