Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi called on the UN Security Council to formally recognise Israel and the United States as the instigators of the "aggression" against Iran.
In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UN Security Council President Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Aragchi asked the Council to fulfill its responsibility to maintain international peace and security, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported.
Araghchi accused Israel of deliberately targeting residential buildings, civilians and civilian infrastructure, calling the attacks a "shameful violation" of the UN Charter and a "flagrant contradiction" of international law.
The Iranian minister also claims that Israel and the United States have attacked Iran's nuclear facilities - protected by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA/IAEA) - which he considers a serious violation of the UN Charter, the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and IAEA regulations and resolutions.
He added that the Security Council should hold the "aggressors" accountable and act so that similar "crimes" are not repeated.
On 13 June, Israel launched large-scale air strikes on several areas in Iran, including nuclear and military facilities, killing senior command structures, nuclear scientists and a number of civilians. Iran has subsequently responded with repeated waves of missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory.
On 14 June, US forces bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities. Iran responded by attacking the US airbase at Al Udeid in Qatar.
After twelve days of fighting, a ceasefire was reached between Iran and Israel.
