At the Qingdao Summit, world business leaders agreed: China is not just a factory, but a laboratory of the future. Bosch, ENI and Herbalife are planning billions of dollars of investment here.
The sixth edition of the Multinational Leaders Summit, held on 20 June in Qingdao, China, attracted 570 guests from 43 countries and regions. The main theme was China's role as a hub for innovation, manufacturing and future investment opportunities. A clear message emerged from the discussions: the Chinese market is now seen as an indispensable pillar of global economic development.
"China is not only the factory of the world, but also the cradle of technological innovation," said Bosch China President Xu Daquan. Bosch has already invested nearly 600 billion yen in the country and is looking to further expand its electric mobility business this year.
But it is far from only German Bosch that is interested in China. Belgian Bekaert, American Avanci, Saudi energy group ACWA and Italian oil giant ENI all praised China's market efficiency, infrastructure and openness to international cooperation.
Herbalife, for example, has chosen Shanghai as the location for its global product innovation hub, ENI is looking for partners for sustainable aviation fuel projects there, and the Saudis have announced they want to triple the number of projects in China by the end of the year, with the aim of achieving $75 billion in assets under management by 2030.
The Qingdao Summit thus reaffirmed that in the eyes of global leaders, China is not only a stable manufacturing base, but also a place where the future of technology is being born.
