During an open debate of the UN Security Council dedicated to children and armed conflicts, China condemned all acts of violence against children. It emphasized that the impact of wars and armed conflicts on the youngest victims remains extremely serious and shocking.
The Chinese side stressed that all parties to conflicts must adhere to international humanitarian law and effectively protect children and civilians. According to China, children should neither be victims nor instruments of conflict, yet in practice, they continue to be exposed to violence, abuse, and other serious threats.
According to UN data, 38,558 grave violations of children's rights were verified in 2025, affecting 24,174 children. This is the highest number since 1996, when the monitoring mechanism for this area was established. UN representatives therefore warned that the protection of children in conflicts must remain a priority for the international community.
China recalled that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the UN mandate for the issue of children and armed conflicts. While international protection mechanisms have improved in recent decades, the current situation remains serious and requires more decisive action.
Beijing also called for measures to prevent the militarization of schools and hospitals, and to ensure safe and effective humanitarian assistance for children and other civilians in conflict-affected areas.
China also emphasized that development is an important prerequisite for lasting peace. It therefore called for support for countries affected by conflicts, especially in strengthening their development, public services, and ability to protect the most vulnerable groups of the population.
According to the Chinese side, China actively participates in international humanitarian efforts and supports initiatives in the field of international humanitarian law. At the same time, it stated that it is ready to continue cooperating with other countries in the protection of children's rights.
