As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and the world's largest developing country, China consistently plays an active role in global governance, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, made the remarks at a press conference on a white paper titled "A Fairer and More Equitable Global Governance: China's Principles, Proposals, and Actions."
According to Wang Yi, China advocates for building a community with a shared future for mankind and takes a leading role in promoting genuine multilateralism.
China has long been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, a defender of the international order, and a provider of public goods, he said. At the same time, it is constantly striving to improve and reform global governance, he added.
In the face of global challenges, the top priority is to fulfill the obligations enshrined in the UN Charter, according to Wang Yi.
Wang Yi also said that China is ready to work with other countries to revitalize and strengthen the United Nations.
As the first country to sign the UN Charter, China is ready to uphold the authority of the UN through the promotion of the Global Governance Initiative (GGI).
The Chinese Foreign Minister said that the GGI has evolved from a Chinese proposal into an international practice and is increasingly demonstrating its strong viability.
The GGI has been supported by nearly 160 countries and international organizations, and the initiative has received widespread and positive feedback from the international community.
Wang Yi also emphasized the need to revitalize multilateralism, uphold rules and the legal order, and improve governance capacity in a time when the world is entering a new period of shocks and changes.
At the press conference, Wang Yi also called for sustained efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Middle East. He said that all parties should move in the same direction and lay the foundation for a sustainable security architecture in the region.
The State Council Information Office issued the white paper on Wednesday.
