Shen Haixiong, CEO of China Media Group (CMG), gave a video speech at the Spring Meeting with International Partners, outlining China's economic ambitions for 2026 and outlining CMG's global role as a media bridge between China and the world.
This year's session of the National People's Congress approved key documents including the Draft 15th Five-Year Plan, which sets out 20 key indicators and proposes 109 projects in six areas. The GDP growth target for 2026 has been set at 4.5 to 5 %. According to Shen, this plan for China's high-quality development offers the world a new „list of opportunities“. As a global opinion poll conducted by CGTN showed, more than 80 % respondents appreciated that China's high-quality development concept sets the trend for the development of the world economy.
„It brings more valuable stability and positive energy to today's volatile world,“ Shen said, adding his key thesis: „When the world prospers, China prospers. When China does well, the world does even better.“
During the two meetings, the Chinese President stressed the need to expand the high level of openness and deepen linkages with the international economic environment. Shen interpreted these words in unambiguous terms: „This reaffirms China's resolve - China's high-level doors will only open more and more.“
From the beginning of 2026, Shen says, the development of new qualitative production forces in China has been booming - from China's large language models gaining popularity around the world, to humanoid robots performing at the Chinese New Year CMG Gala, to the film industry's connection with tourism and gastronomy, where the film economy is actively supporting the consumer market.
As the world's largest comprehensive media conglomerate, CMG has 85 languages and a network of 192 international offices. Shen announced that the group intends to make full use of these capabilities. „CMG is poised to leverage its strengths in integrated communications on a global scale and, together with a global communications network such as the CGTN multimedia platform, create a media platform for news, cultural exchange and resource sharing,“ he said.
In the future, CMG plans to deepen the integration of culture and technology and continue its activities in 5G, 6G, ultra-high definition and artificial intelligence. „Together with friends from around the world, we want to create an innovative platform where technology serves humanity,“ Shen said.
He concluded his speech with a call for international cooperation: „China's development is not possible without the world, and the prosperity of the world needs China. Let us together promote world peace and development to build a community of shared future for mankind.“
