Ungelt Theatre's performances can be seen primarily on its two stages in the centre of Prague. The Stone Stage has been located for 30 years in an ancient cellar near Old Town Square in Týnský dvůr in the Old Town; performances are staged here from September to May. The summer stage with wheelchair access operates in the picturesque part of Hradčany under Loreta in Nový Svět from mid-May to mid-September. You can see almost all productions from the theatre's repertoire there.
The 84-seat Stone Chamber Stage fills up in no time, which is why the theatre is taking its most popular productions to the big stages in Prague. In addition to its home stages, it also makes guest appearances at Prague's friendly theatres - the ABC Theatre and the Theatre Without Railings.
Do you want to see your favourite actors in a different space and in that typical "ungelt" spirit? Here's the rundown!
Violin
Milan Hein, Jiří Langmajer, Pavel Liška
Orphaned brothers Bobby and Terry stumble through the streets of New York, living hand-to-mouth. Everything changes when they find a forgotten stradivarius in the back of a cab. Will they be their ticket to a better life, or will they be morally destroyed? A heist comedy drama about two brothers and their family friend, where the hope for a better life reveals a troubled family history and the strength of their characters.
Theatre Without Railings: 30. 1. / 18. 5.
Deuce
Bára Hrzánová, Jaromír Dulava
In a remote pub somewhere in the north of England, a married couple stand behind the bar. They constantly tease each other, bicker, and yet serve their regulars with unexpected vigour. "Phenomenal clowning", one might say of this production, where laughter and tears mix as much as beer and foam. Fourteen characters and only two actors in a classic of the world comedy genre.
Theatre Without Railings: 10. 5.
Mr. Halpern and Mr. Johnson
František Němec, Petr Kostka
Mr Halpern comes to the grave of his wife Florence to say his last goodbye. But his peace is disturbed by the unknown Mr. Johnson with a bouquet in his hand. What do the two men have in common? A bittersweet conversational comedy between two master actors. Lionel Goldstein's play had its world premiere in London and stars Sir Laurence Olivier in his final role.
ABC Theatre: 3. 5.
Rainy days
David Švehlík, Richard Krajčo
A production that has become a symbol of Ungelt. Tough guys Denny and Joey, inseparable friends and partners in the Chicago Police Department, can solve any problem... until one day they make a mistake that turns their lives upside down. A riveting crime drama about guilt, loyalty and friendship. In its world premiere, it stars Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman.
Theatre Without Railings: 21. 6. / 22. 6.
Chicken on the back
Tatiana Dyková, Vojtěch Dyk, Radovan Klučka
The man forgot her birthday. Is that reason enough to kill her? In this grotesque, maybe so. Mr and Mrs Dyke meet on the same stage - but as estranged neighbours. A banal visit turns into a comic battle between two people for everything. A crazy slapstick about the madness that marriage drives you to.
ABC Theatre: 11. 2.
