Czech TV remained first in 2024, helped by a year of sports

Czech Television stations remained the most watched in 2024 in the universal audience over 15 years of age. The sports year and viewer interest in the domestic hockey championship helped the result.

Stations Czech Television reach the highest share of the TV market in the universal group over 15 years of age in all-day broadcasting in 2024. Their aggregate share exceeded the 30% threshold and reached a total of 30,43 %. It was half a percentage point more than the previous year. That's according to official ratings data. ATO-Nielsen.

V prime time 15+ and in audience groups 15-54 a 18-69 in both daytime and evening broadcasts was the strongest Nova group. 

The position of the main commercial groups in the 15+ audience group was balanced throughout the day last year, Prima group followed only a short distance behind. In other audience groups, Nova showed a higher share.

Channels improved the most in the year-on-year comparison last year Czech Television, mainly due to the growth of the sports channel CT Sport. It aired the key sporting events of the year (World Cup hockey, Euro, Olympic Games in Paris). The growth of representation continued Atmedia, which got to 6.45 % in the 18-69 crowd, and also Television List (1.78 % at 18-69).

CT sport jumper of the year

The most watched TV station remains the main channel TV Nova before the first channel Czech Television and the main channel TV Prima.

In the year-on-year comparison, the share increased most significantly sports channel CT Sport, which with a 4.57 % (15+) became the fourth most watched station in the country in 2024. It is also the highest annual performance of CT Sport since the channel started broadcasting in 2006. 

A higher share than a year earlier was recorded last year in particular Television Seznam, Prima Love, Nova Gold a Nova Action.

The top five stations with the highest share in 2024 are CT2, which is the second best result in the last five years. 

The children's channel also recorded its record result last year CT:D, which achieved its best result since it began broadcasting in 2013.

The show of the year was the hockey final

Hockey World Championship final between Czech Republic a Switzerland became the most-watched TV show of 2024. Including computer and internet viewership, the total viewership of the finale rose to 3.74 million viewers (4+). The match became not only the most watched broadcast on CT Sport in its history, but also the most watched programme on all TV stations since 2022.

The top shows of the year have traditionally included the Christmas Eve fairy tale Three Princesses, other matches of the World Cup of Hockey and Christmas fairy tales. The most successful episodes of the dance show also approached the 2 million viewers mark StarDance.

The President's New Year's speech was seen by 1.7 million people

Viewership This year's speech by the President of the Republic was 47 000 more than a year ago.

New Year's speech of the President Peter Paul watched on television on Wednesday 1.712 million viewers over 15 years of age, which is 47 000 more than last year. Two-thirds of all people in front of their TV screens saw the speech, an increase of 11 percentage points. When asked by the Czech News Agency today, the Czech Televisionwhich broadcast the speech to other TV stations.

The speech, broadcast on New Year's Day from 13:00, was seen by an average of 1.132 million people on CT channels, of whom 883,000 watched it on CT1 and 250,000 for CT24. The viewership of CT programmes was 97 000 viewers higher than a year ago.

A further 580,000 people watched the President's speech on the channels Nova, Prima a CNN Prima Newswho took over the recording from Czech Television. Last year, however, the speech did not run simultaneously on TV Prima as it did this year.

Compared to the Prime Minister's speech Peter Fiala (ODS), broadcast in prime time on 26 December, approximately 363 000 fewer people saw the President's speech. People could also watch Fiala on all the main TV stations.

The Brothers became the show of the night on New Year's Eve

Most viewed the evening show after 20:00 on New Year's Eve was the television premiere of the film Brothers. It was watched by 918,000 viewers over the age of 15.
