PRAGUE - On Friday, 11 April, uniform entrance examinations for four-year secondary school courses began. According to the Ministry of Education, some 98,130 pupils registered for the exams this year, which is about 4,000 more than last year. The first exam date fell today, while the second will take place on Monday 14 April. The exams take the form of tests in Czech language and mathematics and the results will play a key role in admission to secondary school.
Next week, specifically on Tuesday and Wednesday, candidates for multi-year grammar schools will take the uniform entrance examination. There is also a noticeable increase in interest here - in total, the ministry said, some 124 650 pupils are expected to take part, an increase of around 3 300 applicants year-on-year.
The growing number of enrolments may reflect the increased interest in quality secondary education and the overall demographic situation. The results of the examinations will be made available to schools through an electronic system and will then be used to compile results lists.
