Chinese Premier Li Qiang called for key national projects to be developed with high quality, to promote economic and social development and to improve the welfare of people of different ethnic groups.
During his inspection tour in Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, he stressed the need to prioritize environmental protection, ensure the quality implementation of major national projects and develop specific and competitive industries that are appropriate to local conditions.
Touring the construction site of the Sichuan-Xizang Railway in Nyingchi City, Li said that the completion and operation of this railway will be of great significance to the development of Xizang and the improvement of people's living standards, stressing that quality and safety must always be the top priority.

Li described the Yarlung Zangbo hydropower project as the "project of the century" and called for the use of advanced technology, equipment, techniques and materials to provide a solid foundation for its quality construction. He also stressed the need to pay special attention to ecological protection to avoid damaging the environment, and called for efforts to make the project a key project of the new era.
At the Modern Agriculture Demonstration Zone in Lhasa, the capital of Xizang, Li learned about the development of agriculture and livestock production in the area as well as the activities of the Plateau Biological Institute.

Li said harnessing unique local resources to develop plateau agriculture and livestock production is a key driver to raise people's income and promote economic growth in Xizang.
He called for increased demonstration and promotion of new technologies in agriculture and livestock production and for efforts to make breakthroughs in high altitude farming.
Fully appreciating Xizang's achievements in economic and social development, he urged the leaders and people of the region to strengthen efforts to maintain stability, promote development, protect ecology and develop border areas.
