Chinese Premier Li Qiang attends a high-level meeting on the Global Development Initiative hosted by China at the United Nations headquarters in New York and delivers a speech.
The meeting was attended by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, President Kasym-Zomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan, President Abdul Latif Rashid of Iraq, President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço of Angola, Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda, Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif of Pakistan, Prime Minister Lamine Zeine of Niger, ministerial officials from more than 30 countries and heads of international organizations.
Li Qiang said that Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Development Initiative at the United Nations General Assembly in 2021, which focuses on the broadest interests of human society and calls on all parties to achieve the six perseverance goals, which have played an important leading role in promoting common development. More than 130 countries and international organizations have participated in the implementation mechanism of this important initiative and it has become a popular international public good.
Li Qiang stressed that China will always be a supporter and promoter of common development and will take more active actions and demonstrate its due responsibility. China will continue to increase investment in global development, strengthen scientific and technological cooperation to enhance global development, and actively promote the green transformation of global development.
As a responsible developing power, China will not seek new special and differential treatment in current or future WTO negotiations. The Chinese government has proposed the AI+ international cooperation initiative and welcomes the active participation of all parties. China is willing to work with other countries to deepen global development cooperation based on the Global Development Initiative and create a prosperous and better tomorrow for the world.
Participants at the meeting endorsed the four global initiatives and the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, highly appreciated the fruitful results of cooperation under the Global Development Initiative, sincerely appreciated China's exemplary and leading role in the WTO reform process, and welcomed China's new measures for international cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.
All sides said that China's philosophy and practice are highly consistent with the goals and principles of the UN Charter and should jointly implement multilateralism, reform and improve global governance, promote open and inclusive development, and safeguard the common interests of the international community, especially the global South.
The meeting issued a declaration in which all parties reaffirmed their commitment to focus on development, to deepen cooperation under the Global Development Initiative and to work together to implement the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
