Karel Nedbálek, associate professor, lawyer, electrical engineer, writer, business manager and university teacher, who serves as secretary of the Czech-Chinese Association, recalled in his speech the long history of economic cooperation between Czechoslovakia and China. He said that the first significant contacts date back to 1956, when agricultural machinery, including Zetor tractors, were exported to China. „We basically started some cooperation with China in 1956,“ He said.
Nedbálek also recalled the later establishment of cooperation through JZD Slušovice and the creation of a joint venture in 1994. According to him, Czech ideas and technologies were transferred to China at that time, and later wine, crystal and other consumer goods were also exported. However, he also pointed out that many domestic companies no longer exist today. „We have de facto lost 30 years,“ he said.
He identified the area of green transformation and hydrogen technologies as one of the current opportunities for further development. He recalled a project in Krnov, where hydrogen was produced by electrolysis and used to reduce engine consumption. „The hydrogen, that's about the only way.“ He said. He said hydrogen can be used not only alongside batteries to stabilise the grid, but also to store surplus energy from photovoltaics, for example.
Finally, he also mentioned the forthcoming publication China and Us, which should capture concrete experiences with mutual cooperation, supplies and study visits. „We've got the book China and Us ready to go.“ he said. He added that the authors are now looking for Chinese partners to help support its publication.
