Retail sales in September increased by 5.6 % yoy in real terms and by 0.2 % m-o-m. Sales and repair of motor vehicles rose by 0.9 % y-o-y and 0.6 % m-o-m.
Month-on-month sales in retail trade, except of motor vehicles increased by 0.2 % in real terms in September, with non-food goods rising by 0.4 % and fuel by 0.1 1 %, while food fell by 0.1 1 %.
Year-on-year, retail sales increased by 5.6 % in real terms in September. Sales of non-food goods rose by 8.2 %, fuel by 5.3 % and food by 2.0 %.
"Retail sales adjusted for price effects rose year on year in September. Sales of non-food goods, fuels and food increased. The biggest contributor to retail sales growth was internet sales, where sales have been growing at a double-digit pace since the beginning of the year," Says Jana Gotvaldová, Head of the Statistics of Trade, Transport and Services Division of the CZSO.

Sales in specialised stores with pharmaceutical and medical goods increased by 9.8 %, cosmetics and toiletries by 9.7 %, clothing and footwear by 6.7 %, culture, sport and recreation by 3.7 % and computer and communication equipment by 0.2 %. Conversely, sales in household goods stores decreased by 2.0 %. Sales in non-specialised stores with a predominance of food increased by 2.5 % and in specialised food stores decreased by 2.5 %. Sales in non-specialised stores with a predominance of non-food goods increased by 14.3 %. Internet and mail order stores increased by 22.6 %.
Revenue for the sale and repair of motor vehicles real month-on-month sales increased by 0.6 %.Year-on-year sales increased by 0.9 %, including 1.6 % for repairs of motor vehicles and 0.7 % for sales of motor vehicles (including spare parts).


Retail sales volume increased by 0.5 % in the euro area and by 0.3 % in the EU. Compared to September 2023, an increase of 2.9 % in the euro area and 2.8 % in the EU
According to the first estimates of Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, the seasonally adjusted retail trade volume increased by 0.5 % in the euro area and by 0.3 % in the EU in September 2024 compared to August 2024. In August 2024, the retail trade volume increased by 1.1 % in the euro area and by 0.9 % in the EU.
In September 2024, the calendar-adjusted retail sales index increased by 2.9 % in the euro area and by 2.8 % in the EU compared with September 2023.

Of the Member States for which data are available, the highest month-on-month growth in total retail sales was recorded in Belgium, Denmark a Croatia (all +2.1 %), Germany (+1.2 %), Austria a Slovakia (both countries +1.1 %). The largest decrease was recorded in Slovenia (-2.6 %), Polish (-2.0 %) and Finland (-1.6 %).

The largest decrease was recorded in Estonia (-4.4 %), Polish a Slovenia (both countries -3,0 %) and Finland (-2.1 %).
