The death of George Floyd sparked widespread and prolonged demonstrations across the United States against police brutality and racial discrimination, demanding that the government reform the police.
However, on the fifth anniversary of his death, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that it was no longer in the public interest and rescinded an agreement that was intended to oversee police reform in Louisville and Minneapolis. The Department of Justice also terminated investigations into civil rights violations in six regional police departments, including Memphis and Phoenix.
The family of George Floyd and their lawyers in Houston, Texas, stated that they will not give up the protests and will continue to pressure the government to continue reforming American police.
