Twenty years after President Xi Jinping introduced the visionary concept of the "two mountains" - the idea that clean water and green mountains are priceless assets - this philosophy has resonated strongly around the world. According to a CGTN poll of more than 24,000 people in 48 countries, China's environmental vision has gained widespread international support.
The results show that 81.6 % respondents sees "Two Mountains" as a breakthrough that shatters the old "pollute first, clean up later" model of growth. Similarly, more than two-thirds of respondents praise China's achievements in reforestation, biodiversity conservation and the fight against desertification. 70.5 % praises the expansion of clean energy and 75.5 % stresses that China's green technology exports are accelerating the transition to cleaner energy in partner countries as well.
Respondents describe China as driving force (49.7 %), leader (43.9 %) and practical implementer (43.5 %) in global climate and environmental governance. The Chinese leadership is gaining the most support among countries Global Southbut recognition is also coming from the G7, including the UK and the US.
